LU Drums and Front
LU Drums and Front is the percussion section for the 91制片厂 Marching Band, "The Showcase of Southeast Texas". We utilize a full-sized "corps-style" drumline and front ensemble comprised of music majors and non-music majors alike. We only hold auditions for primary placements on preferred instruments; so, anyone who would like to join the Showcase should, and are welcome!
Required Rehearsal Schedule, Fall semester:- Mondays from 6:00pm – 8:00pm (required sectional)
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:30pm – 3:25pm
- Fridays: 1:50pm – 3:10pm
Commitment Form
Complete the Marching Band Commitment Form to stay up to date and receive pertinent information throughout the summer and season! Both returning and new members must complete this form.
Experience Camps
Two “Experience Camps” will be provided throughout the summer, and you are highly encouraged to attend both dates. The first camp will focus mainly on fundamentals along with the warmup exercises, while the second will focus on musical excerpts in preparation for the live audition.
- Experience Camp #1 – Sat., June 21, 9:30am–4:00pm
- Experience Camp #2 – Sat., July 26, 9:30am–4:00pm

Audition Information
Auditions for LU Drums and Front will consist of 1) a preliminary video audition, and 2) a live audition. (However, the video requirement will be waived if both experience camps are attended. Dates and details for both camps are above.)
- Video audition: due August 1st, 11:59pm
- Live audition/percussion mini-camp: August 9th-11th
The live audition will consist of a low-pressure “rehearsal” style weekend along with an individual audition which will include sight-reading. Further information and materials will be sent as they are available. Memorization of all materials is expected by the live audition.

Instrument Packets
Below are individual packets for each section. They include warmups and exercises that will be used in both portions of the audition process as well as throughout the season. Specifics for each instrument are included within each packet, so please read all material carefully.
Rhythm Section (Electronics)
LU Drums and Front does include an electronic rhythm section (bass guitar, electric guitar, synths, drum set), but those positions will be filled on an as-needed basis when available. All interested parties must first fill out their commitment form and then reach out to the Director of Percussion, Dr. Reese Maultsby (rmaultsby@lamar.edu) for further instructions. Any placement auditions for rhythm section members will be held at the live audition percussion mini-camp, August 9-11.
Video Submission – Due August 1st
(Note: A video submission is not required if both experience camps are attended.)
